Behind the Build: John Blow on Craftsmanship, Teamwork, and Detroit Pride
How a love for building became a career defined by skill, family, and unforgettable projects.
Some builders are drawn to the craft early, and never look back. For Lead Carpenter John Blow, the spark started in high school woodshop classes and has grown into a lifelong passion for craftsmanship. Whether he’s leading a complex project or cheering on his favorite Detroit teams, John brings the same dedication, energy, and pride to everything he does.
John Blow – Lead Carpenter
1. What inspired you to get into construction and design?
I first discovered my knack for building in high school, through building trades and wood shop classes. There was something instantly satisfying about working with my hands and watching raw materials take shape. I was hooked by the idea that a pile of lumber, nails, and plans could become something functional, beautiful, and lasting. That early experience sparked a lifelong appreciation for craftsmanship and the creative process behind construction.
2. What do you love most about your role at Momentum? Momentum gives me the chance to show up to a place I genuinely enjoy—surrounded by great people, doing work I love. It’s simple, really. But it’s also the kind of environment that makes the hard work feel worthwhile and the wins even more meaningful.
3. What’s a memorable project you've worked on, and what made it special? The Luxury Gold Lounge Project is easily one of my favorite projects. I was involved in nearly every phase—from early planning to final finishes—and that level of engagement made the transformation especially rewarding. By the end, it wasn’t just functional; it was one of the coolest, most immersive spaces I’ve ever seen. Watching it come to life was a highlight.
4. What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
When I'm not working I love spending time with my wife and daughter and you can find me at the bowling alley every weekend. I am also a huge Detroit Sports fan.
5. What’s an unexpected fact about you most people don’t know? I’m a twin and I have also bowled three 300 games.
From transforming raw lumber into lasting structures to shaping one-of-a-kind spaces like the Luxury Gold Lounge, John’s story is a testament to what happens when passion meets skill. At Momentum, his craftsmanship continues to leave a mark not just on the spaces we build, but also on the team that values his dedication and energy.
